Man attacked at Leytinstone station by a man yielding a machete.
The attacker shouted "this is for Syria" as he slashed the mans throat. Then attacked 3 others.
What a surprise!

Good to get your observations.
So the question is why are we not seeing or hearing the moderate Muslims calls for modernisation and detachment of Sharia and government from the faith itself. Also, the media have to relax the PC when it comes to challenging the backward looking aspects of the Quran.
The British muslim community needs to deal with the fact that a lot of third and fourth generation asians live a decadent western lifestyle when it suits them, but then fall into line when convenient.
Its hypocritical for them to go to Friday prayers and then head off for a bit of dealing.

You are probably right Mike.
Any problems I have had have been with the men, aggressive angry knobs with short man syndrome.
No doubt that Muslims do put their religion before everything else even common sense.
Some of myultra orthodox jewish relatives are the same but then again they don't want to take over the world.
This is the problem with Islam if there is one. Inflexibile and a mandate to conquer and convert but as you say driven by men who tend be dickheads on the whole so no surprise.

I also think there may be a belief amongst the upper echelons of Islam that it is possible - and even easy - to simply take all the material, technological & scientific gains 600 years of enlightenment has brought to the west and subsume them into their Islamic way of life, throwing the culture that actually created them to one side (as an irrelevance).

The thing is, I suppose, Christianity went through the Reformation and then had to cope with the wake up call of the Enlightenment, all of which weeded out most of the idiots. Islam unfortunately hasn't woken up and is still subscribed to by complete idiots. They need some kind of Reformation, education or if they won't tow the moderate line, banishment and confinement.

This discussion is key to modernisation of Islam that moderate Muslims would want? Islam in a secular culture can work if the seperation of religion, state and rule of law is achieved.

FWIW I've worked for several years in 3 Islamic states and individually I found everyone I worked with pleasant & friendly and ever willing to help me address any local issues that came up - but to a man (and this was a "man" thing), they all said if it was a choice between the friendship we'd built up and their religion, the religion would win every time without them giving it a second thought. This was right across the spectrum in fairly large organisations.
The Muslim women I met were much less polarised as I suspect women the world over are generally more pragmatic realists, whatever restrictions they live under.
